AMC Services

Annual Maintenance Contracts covering CCTV, networking, servers, firewalls, access control, fire alarm, AV, LED and full IT infrastructure — with Basic, Standard and Comprehensive coverage options built around how each system actually fails, not a generic maintenance checklist.

What an AMC Actually Covers

An Annual Maintenance Contract is a scheduled commitment to inspect, service, and repair a defined set of systems over a fixed period, rather than waiting for something to break and then scrambling to find whoever installed it — who may no longer be reachable, may have gone out of business, or may simply take days to respond because you're not a priority client without a contract in place. Every AMC we issue documents exactly what's covered, how often it's inspected, what response time applies when something fails outside a scheduled visit, and what — if anything — is excluded (consumables like fire-panel batteries past their rated life, for example, are typically billed separately rather than silently included and then disputed later).

Why Technology Systems Need Scheduled Maintenance at All

Every system on this page degrades in ways that are invisible day-to-day. A CCTV hard drive nearing failure doesn't announce itself — it just starts silently dropping footage until someone needs a recording that isn't there. A fire alarm panel's backup battery loses capacity gradually, and the first sign of a problem is often a failed inspection or, worse, a power cut during an actual fire. A firewall rule that was correct on installation day can become a security gap eighteen months later simply because the threat landscape moved and nobody revisited the configuration. None of these are dramatic failures — they're slow, quiet ones, which is exactly why they need to be caught on a schedule rather than discovered by accident.

Preventive vs. Corrective Maintenance — Both Matter, Differently

Preventive maintenance is the scheduled, calendar-driven half of an AMC: cleaning camera housings and checking focus, testing fire-panel batteries and smoke detector sensitivity, verifying backup power and UPS runtime, auditing firewall rules and access logs, checking cable terminations for corrosion. It's deliberately unglamorous work, and it's also the part of an AMC that prevents most emergency callouts in the first place. Corrective maintenance is what happens when something fails anyway — a camera goes offline, a switch dies, a control panel throws a fault code — and it's judged on response time: how quickly a technician who already knows your site and equipment can be on-site versus starting from zero. Both halves matter, and a contract that only covers one of them is not really covering you.

Basic, Standard, and Comprehensive Coverage Explained

We offer three coverage tiers so the level of protection can match the actual criticality of the system and the budget available, rather than forcing every client into a one-size-fits-all contract. Basic coverage typically includes scheduled preventive visits and discounted labour on repairs, with parts billed separately — a reasonable starting point for lower-risk, non-critical systems. Standard adds priority response times and a defined number of included corrective visits per year, which is where most of our commercial clients land. Comprehensive coverage bundles parts and labour together with the fastest guaranteed response times, and is the right call for anything where downtime has a direct, immediate cost — a data centre's cooling and power infrastructure, a hospital's access control, a retail chain's CCTV during trading hours. Which tier makes sense usually becomes obvious once we've walked the site together; we'll give you an honest recommendation rather than upselling the highest tier by default.

What a Scheduled Inspection Visit Actually Involves

Every AMC visit follows a documented checklist specific to the system being serviced, and you receive a written service report after every visit — not a verbal "everything's fine" on the way out the door. For CCTV, that means checking every camera's image quality, focus, and field of view, verifying recording continuity and available storage, and testing remote access. For fire alarm systems, it means testing detector sensitivity, verifying panel battery voltage under load, and confirming that zone mapping still matches the current floor layout (which changes more often than people expect, as offices are reconfigured). For networking and IT infrastructure, it means reviewing firewall logs, confirming backup jobs are actually completing (not just scheduled), and checking for firmware updates on critical hardware. This documentation trail is also what most insurers and compliance auditors actually want to see — not just a system that works, but proof it's been maintained on a schedule.

Industry-Specific AMC Requirements

A retail chain's CCTV AMC is built around trading-hours response times and loss-prevention priorities. A hospital's access-control AMC has to account for restricted areas that can never be offline, even briefly, during a scheduled visit. A manufacturing facility's fire alarm AMC has to be scheduled around production shifts rather than disrupting a running line. A school's AMC requirements are shaped by child-safety regulation as much as by the technology itself. We tailor the inspection schedule, response-time commitments, and even the timing of visits to the industry and the specific site, rather than running every client through an identical calendar. See our Industries page for more on how requirements differ by sector.

What Happens If You've Never Had an AMC Before

If your systems were installed by us, onboarding a new AMC is straightforward — we already have the documentation. If they were installed by someone else, or you're not sure what condition they're actually in, we start with a paid inspection and condition assessment before quoting AMC coverage. This protects both sides: we won't commit to a response-time guarantee on equipment we haven't verified, and you get an honest picture of what state your existing systems are actually in — which is often the first time a client learns that a "working" system has been quietly degrading for years.

The Real Cost of Skipping Maintenance

The math on AMC coverage is straightforward once you've seen it play out: a quarterly CCTV inspection costs a fraction of what it costs to discover, after a break-in, that three cameras had been offline for two months and nobody knew. A fire-panel battery test costs a fraction of what a failed fire inspection costs in fines, remediation timelines, and — worst case — an actual fire during a power cut with no backup. Businesses that skip maintenance aren't usually saving money; they're deferring a larger, less predictable cost and hoping the deferred failure doesn't land at the worst possible moment. We've taken over AMC coverage for more than one client whose previous approach was "call someone when it breaks," and in nearly every case, the first year of proper preventive maintenance surfaced two or three latent problems that had been silently accumulating — exactly the kind of thing a scheduled inspection is designed to catch before it becomes an emergency.

Documentation That Actually Holds Up

Every AMC visit generates a dated, written service report — what was checked, what was found, what (if anything) was flagged for follow-up. Over a year or two, this becomes a genuine maintenance history: proof, not just a claim, that your fire alarm system has been tested on schedule, that your CCTV storage has never silently failed, that your firewall rules have been reviewed regularly. This record is what insurers ask for after a claim, what compliance auditors ask for during a review, and — frankly — what protects you if a dispute ever arises about whether a system was properly maintained. Clients who've been through an insurance claim with and without this kind of documentation in hand will tell you it's not a formality; it's often the difference between a claim being settled promptly and being contested for months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many maintenance visits happen per year under a typical AMC?

It depends on the tier and the system — CCTV and networking are commonly inspected quarterly, while fire alarm systems often require more frequent testing under applicable codes. The exact schedule is specified in your contract, not left vague.

What's the response time if something breaks outside a scheduled visit?

Response-time commitments are tier-specific and are written into the contract — Comprehensive coverage carries the fastest guaranteed response. We'll tell you the exact number before you sign, not "as soon as possible."

Can I upgrade or downgrade my AMC tier later?

Yes, at renewal, or sooner if your risk profile changes — for example, if a previously low-priority system becomes business-critical after an incident elsewhere.

Do you offer AMC coverage for systems you didn't originally install?

In most cases yes, following an initial paid condition assessment so we can confirm the equipment is serviceable and set realistic response-time expectations.

Is an AMC required, or can I call for one-off repairs instead?

One-off repairs are always available, but without a contract you're queued behind clients who do have priority response commitments, and you lose the preventive maintenance that catches most failures before they happen.

Whichever system you're covering — a single CCTV network or a full multi-site IT and security estate — the underlying principle is the same: maintenance that's scheduled, documented, and handled by people who already know your site costs less, causes less disruption, and catches problems while they're still small. That's the standard every BRS Technology AMC is built to.
